Is Your Property Compliant with SB-970?

On September 27, 2018 Governor Brown signed SB-970 into law. The new law means every hotel and motel within the state of California must provide human trafficking training to all employees.

The training requirements are as follows:

  • At least 20- minutes of interactive training
  • Definition of Human Trafficking & Commercial Exploitation of Children
  • Guidance on how to identify at risk individuals
  • Difference between labor and sex trafficking specific to the hotel sector
  • Guidance on the role of hospitality employees in reporting and responding to this issue.
  • Contact information for appropriate agencies.

Each hotel has until January 1, 2020 to provide the training for those employed at their property as of July 1, 2019 and 6-months from the date of hire to provide the training for all other employees.
