This International Women’s Day, We Run for Her

International Women’s Day is a global moment to celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and progress of women everywhere. But at Guardian Group, we also recognize that this day serves as a sober reminder of the work still left to do.

While we celebrate the glass ceilings being shattered, we cannot ignore the women and girls who are being kept in the shadows. To truly honor women, we must confront the reality that they remain the primary targets of one of the world’s most heinous crimes: human trafficking.

The Disproportionate Reality

Human trafficking is not a gender-neutral crime. While it can happen to anyone, the data tells a consistent and heartbreaking story. Globally, women and girls make up the vast majority of detected trafficking victims, specifically in the realm of sex trafficking, where they account for over 90% of those exploited.

Why is this? Traffickers prey on systemic vulnerabilities:

  • Economic Inequality: Women are more likely to experience poverty and lack of access to formal employment.

  • Gender-Based Violence: Domestic abuse and childhood trauma often make women easier targets for “grooming.”

  • Social Displacement: In areas of conflict or climate disasters, women and children are the most vulnerable to those who promise “safe passage” or “work.”

At Guardian Group, we don’t just see these as statistics; we see the faces behind the numbers. We see daughters, sisters, and mothers whose futures were stolen by someone seeking to make a profit.

Awareness is the first step, but action is what disrupts the cycle of exploitation. This year, we are turning our collective resolve into movement. In honor of International Women’s Day, we are inviting you to participate in our Virtual 5K for Freedom. Whether you are on a treadmill, a local trail, or your neighborhood sidewalk, every step you take is a statement that the exploitation of women will not be tolerated on our watch.

“Run for Her” isn’t just a slogan; it’s a commitment. We run for the girl who has yet to be identified, for the survivor finding her footing, for the girl who is at risk today, and the woman who hasn’t yet found her way home.
